Mattress Function Explained

Mattresses should provide sleepers with the proper support and comfort. However, since every individual’s body is different from everyone else’s there is no one size fits all. The mattress industry is constantly struggling to create a mattress which will do exactly what can’t be done.

We all need a different amount of push back and let go from our mattress. At the same time consumers are searching for the elusive combination of materials which will help them to sleep better, the mattress manufacturers are trying to find materials that will allow them to make the most profit. For the past 50 years the go to material was polyurethane foam because it came in different firmnesses and was inexpensive to buy. Our chemists figured out ways to give it unique characteristics e.g. memory foam, which would allow you to sink in after warm up, but at the same time it lost its ability to push back against your body for support.

Meanwhile, on the outskirts of the mass market mattresses was latex foam. This material, while offering a great combination of comfort and support as well as breathability and durability, wasn’t cheap. It couldn’t be whipped up in a test tube unless you could put a rubber tree in there too and our climate would not support the growth of rubber trees. Latex is harvested from trees grown in tropical climates like India, Sri Lanka & Thailand and then shipped here. Is it worth it?

That’s for you to decide, but before you spend your money on a mattress made with synthetic material, try out a latex mattress and see what all the buzz is about. Remember, the test drive is free…and Natural Mattress Heaven can build your latex mattress with a different firmness on each side.
